Canadian Blind Sports NewsCanadian Blind Sports Announces Team Canada for the 2011 IBSA World Youth and Student ChampionshipsJuly 6– Canadian Blind Sports announces Team Canada for the 2011 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Youth and Student Championships which will feature both a junior men’s and junior women’s Goalball team, 1 judo athlete, as well 3 coaches, 1 physio, 1 guide and 1 team leader. The 2011 IBSA World Youth Championships take place in Colorado Springs, Colorado from July 12th – 17th and are open to athletes who are blind or visually impaired aged 19 and under. May 26 – The 2011 Canadian Blind Sports National Goalball Championships saw the Ontario Trillium Women’s Team win their 4th consecutive National Championship title, while the BC Men’s Team won their second consecutive gold medal for the provinces 2nd ever Championship Title. The event was hosted by Blind Sports Nova Scotia and ran at the Citadel High School and Community Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia from May 13th – 15th, 2011. Download Final Results 2011 Canadian Goalball Championships 2011 Canadian Blind Sports Junior Goalball ChampionshipsOntario Jr. Men and BC Jr. Women win their first-ever National Junior Championship Titles April 21 – The 2011 Canadian Blind Sports Junior Goalball Championships saw 2 new champions crowned this past weekend at the W. Ross MacDonald School for the Blind in Brantford, Ontario. Now in its 6th year, the annual championships had a field of 5 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams featuring some of Canada’s top up and coming Goalball athletes aged 20 and under. Dowload Full Release - 2011 Canadian Junior Goalball Championships Outstanding Performance for Team Canada at the 2011 IBSA World Championships and GamesApril 13 - The Canadian Women’s Goalball Team won gold and the Canadian Men’s Goalball Team won bronze, which qualifies both teams for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England. The Canadian Powerlifters combined to win 1 silver medal and 1 bronze, as well as set a world record in masters bench-press. The Canadian Judo athletes put in a solid effort and each won at least 1 match, with 1 of their athletes on pace to qualify for the 2012 Paralympics with a 5th place finish.
